CARING FOR THE SICK
This course is designed to impart knowledge and skills deemed necessary for providing competent help and care for a sick patient at home. The course introduce the concepts of caring for the sick in home environment, and emphasises on skills and knowledge of the procedures.
Eligible Candidate:
- Must be Member of SJAM with valid SJAM ID Card

How long is a Basic First Aid course?
The course lasts two days (8 hours x 2) and takes place in the classroom and nursing room.
What topics are covered on a Basic First Aid course?
- Definition of Caring for the Sick
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Infection control – hand hygiene, PPE, cleaning, disinfection and Sterilization
- Lifting and Handling of Casualty
- Measuring and Recording Vital Sign
- Nutrition and Meal Preparation
- Bed making techniques
- Personal care – bed bath, oral care, hair care & care of general appearance
- Wound care
- Dressing technique
Assessment
Continuous assessment by the trainer and written exam.
Certificate
Successful candidates receive a certificate of competency issue by St. John Ambulans Malaysia, valid for three years.
